Quilt Counting

I choose the book Quilt Counting because I loved the story and paintings. Each of the paintings are so vibrantly colored and simple. They add a dimension but do not distract from the point of the story.

Our culture needs more stories that promote spending time with different generations, sharing skills and making useful items. It is important for children to see that they can make a quilt that will have memory and value. All too often “blankets” are purchased from superstores that were made in China with poor quality materials and tossed into landfills after it falls apart in a year. Quilting is good for our soul, our economy, and our community.

I selected colorful fabrics from my studio and purchased a few new ones that added texture. Most of the blocks were designed on my computer, printed out, then paper pieced to form the quilt blocks. I tried to keep my quilt simple and whimsical.

"Ants in my Garden"

An original design art quilt inspired by a fire ant attack in my garden. I was trying to plant some new shrubs and out of nowhere my hand was covered in fire ants. Ouch!
